Social Simulation Modelling Progress

چکیده
GENESIS is a UK project funded by its Economic and Social Research Council through the National Centre for e-Social Science research node program. Some GENESIS work aims to develop simulation models that represent individual humans and their organisations and how they change their location and influence over time. For this I am developing two models that operate at different temporal resolutions over different time scales. The models are implemented as open source in the Java programming language and share a common set of packages, classes and methods. One model works with time steps of seconds and runs for days, which I call a traffic model. The other works with time steps of a day and runs for years, which I call a demographic model. More detailed descriptions of these models and their development is described in Sections 2 and 3 respectively.

Modelling and Simulation for e-Social Science: Current Progress
This paper reports on the progress that has been made in the Modelling and Simulation for e-Social Science (MoSeS) project at the University of Leeds. This project seeks to use e-Science techniques to develop a national demographic model and simulation of the UK population specified at the level of individuals and households. The architecture of MoSeS is presented and discussed, with particular...
متن کاملElements of a computational infrastructure for social simulation.
Applications of simulation modelling in social science domains are varied and increasingly widespread. The effective deployment of simulation models depends on access to diverse datasets, the use of analysis capabilities, the ability to visualize model outcomes and to capture, share and re-use simulations as evidence in research and policy-making. We describe three applications of e-social scie...
متن کاملModelling and Simulation for e-Social Science through the Use of Service- Orientation and Web 2.0 Technologies
This paper reports on the progress that has been made in the system infrastructure/visualisation aspect of the Modelling and Simulation for e-Social Science (MoSeS) project at the University of Leeds. Until recently, user interaction with MoSeS models has been achieved through a series of JSR-168 compliant portlets, which offers users a web-based interface to MoSeS. This paper presents the new ...

This paper addresses the difficulties associated to the diversity of perspectives in the social and organisational simulation community, such as misunderstanding about concepts, and modelling methodologies. In order to deal with this difficulties, first, a hierarchy of languages, namely: natural language and culture, theoretical and modelling paradigm, modelling language, and simulation languag...

متن کاملSocial Modelling and Public Policy: What is microsimulation modelling and how is it being used?
The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of social modelling, and in particular a general introduction to and insight into the potential role and usefulness of microsimulation in analysing public policy. Despite having made a major contribution to the development of tax and cash transfer policies, there are many important areas of government policy to which microsimulation has not yet be...
